The short version: Reel Talk collects what it needs to run the app. We don't sell your data, and your saved spots and catch logs stay private to your account. The details are below.
What We Collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo.
- Things you save. Your saved spots and their map coordinates, catch logs, trip logs, notes, photos, and app preferences.
- Location. The "Locate Me" button uses your device's location inside your browser to center the map; that location is not sent to our servers. When you log a catch, the App may send your current location to our servers once to suggest the nearest fishing spot. Catch logs, trips, and saved spots store the coordinates you choose to save.
- Sign-in and security data. For each sign-in and session, we record the IP address, device type, and browser, to keep your account secure and to apply your plan's device limit.
- Usage data. Statistics about how the App is used, such as pages and features used, browser type, and a hashed (not raw) IP address, to monitor performance and improve the App.
- Subscription records. If you subscribe to Pro, we store your subscription status and payment history along with the customer and subscription identifiers from Stripe. Your card details are entered with Stripe and never reach our servers.
- Support messages. If you contact us through the support form, we store your email address, your name if you give it, your message, and your device and browser details if you leave that box checked, along with a hashed IP address to limit spam.
How We Use It
- To provide the App's features, including scoring your saved spots and keeping your Log Book
- To apply plan limits and manage subscriptions
- To keep accounts and the App secure, and to prevent abuse
- To respond to your support messages
- To understand how the App is used, fix problems, and improve it
Photos
Catch photos are stored with Cloudflare and served from unlisted links that contain a random identifier. Reel Talk does not list or share them anywhere, but anyone who has a photo's direct link can view it, so share those links with care.
Advertising & Cookies
Reel Talk shows ads through Google AdSense on our website and in the App. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads, which may be based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings, and learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
We also use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to protect your account.
Service Providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run the App. Each receives only what it needs for its part:
- Google for sign-in and advertising
- Stripe for subscription payments
- Cloudflare for website hosting and photo storage
- Railway for our servers and database
Maps and data layers load directly from MapTiler, CyclOSM, RainViewer, NASA, and NOAA. Like any website your browser loads, they receive your IP address and the map areas you view.
What We Don't Do
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not share your saved spots, catch logs, or trips with other users or with advertisers
Data Retention
We keep your account information and the things you save while your account exists. Detailed usage events are kept for a short period and then combined into aggregate statistics. Sign-in, security, subscription, and support records are kept as long as needed to secure and operate the App and to meet legal obligations.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. See our Terms of Service for how minors may use the App.
Data Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, but no system is entirely secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
